Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle changes have contributed to the increasing incidence of CVDs. Diet therapy is an essential component of the prevention and management of CVDs. A healthy diet can help control risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, obesity, and diabetes, which are major contributors to CVDs. This article reviews the evidence on the effects of various dietary patterns and specific nutrients on cardiovascular health. The findings suggest that a healthy diet, such as the Mediterranean diet, DASH diet, and plant-based diets, can significantly reduce the risk of CVDs. Specific nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and antioxidants also have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health. Overall, diet therapy is a crucial strategy for preventing and managing CVDs.
