Abstrak

This article explores the unique and often criticized writing style of American author Theodore Dreiser, particularly in his novel "Sister Carrie." While some literary critics have labeled Dreiser as a deeply flawed stylist, others argue that his writing accurately reflects the unvarnished truth of life. The article delves into the specific examples of Dreiser's language use, including his tendency towards verbal and syntactic errors, repetition, and unusual sentence structure. Ultimately, the article argues that Dreiser's style, while not conventionally polished, is an intentional reflection of his naturalistic approach to literature, and serves to accurately portray the reality of his characters and their experiences.
