John Rawls’ concept of the “veil of ignorance” has been a cornerstone of modern political philosophy, aiming to ensure fairness and justice in societal decision-making. However, its application in the context of a pandemic raises unique challenges and considerations. This philosophical article critically examines the tenability of Rawls’ veil of ignorance in an age of pandemic. It explores the potential benefits and limitations of this concept in addressing issues such as resource allocation, shared vulnerability, and competing interests. By delving into these complex dynamics, the article seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of the veil of ignorance in guiding ethical decision-making during a pandemic.
