Myocardial infarction in patients with diabetes mellitus represents a distinct clinical scenario characterized by unique pathophysiological mechanisms, an atypical course, and an unfavorable prognosis. Diabetes mellitus is considered equivalent to coronary heart disease in terms of cardiovascular risk, which underscores the importance of studying the features of development and progression of acute coronary syndrome in this patient population.
