Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is a localized defect in the gastric mucosa, associated with H. pylori infection, NSAID use, stress, and other risk factors. This article reviews pharmacotherapy and preventive strategies for PUD based on a literature review. Pharmacotherapy includes proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), H2 receptor antagonists, gastroprotective agents, and antibiotics. Preventive approaches include H. pylori eradication, protection from NSAID-induced injury, probiotics, and promotion of a healthy lifestyle. These strategies enhance ulcer healing, reduce recurrence risk, and improve patients’ quality of life.
