Mercury is one of the most toxic heavy metals widely distributed in the environment. Its detection in biological and environmental samples is a crucial aspect of toxicological studies. However, identifying mercury ions (Hg²⁺) accurately presents significant analytical and methodological challenges. This article discusses the main problems encountered in mercury ion detection and proposes practical and modern solutions for improving reliability, sensitivity, and selectivity in toxicological analysis.
